GROWING TIPS

Sow thinly and evenly, indoors 8-12 weeks before the last frost, firming the soil gently as you go. Keep soil moist and the planting area covered since violas require darkness for germination. After seedlings emerge provide plenty of light, up to 16 hours a day, to encourage growth. When plants have 2 sets of leaves, thin to the strongest. Transplant hardened seedlings to moist, rich, well-drained soil after the last frost. Water regularly at the base of the plant to avoid wetting foliage.

Violas bloom in cooler weather and can withstand mild frosts. In late summer sow seeds outdoors, in partial shade, for autumn blooms.

For best results deadhead blooms, and cut back scraggly foliage, to encourage growth and renewed flowering during cooler months.

Help Your Plants Thrive with Weed Control: Weeds compete with vegetables, flowers and other plants for water, space and nutrients. Give your plants their best life by keeping weeds under control with Organic Weed Barrier Paper, mulch or careful weeding.
