GROWING TIPS

Kohlrabi is a cool season crop. Sow directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed, or in the late summer for a fall harvest. Plant seeds 1/2" deep in loose, sandy soil with a pH of approximately 6.5-7.0. Distribute seeds evenly, 1-2" apart and thin to the best starts when seedlings are 2-3" tall. Keep the soil moist, but not soaked, with frequent watering. Kohlrabi’s gorgeous purple globes grow above the ground and should be harvested, by cutting the root off at ground level, when the bulbous stem is 2-3" in diameter.

Kohlrabi & Friends: Kohlrabi grows well with beets, celery or cucumbers as companion plants.

The Turnip Alternative: Kohlrabi grows above the ground so it's a great shallow soil alternative to Turnips or Rutabagas.
