Sow seeds outdoors in a sunny area with well tilled, well drained soil after the last frost date in the spring. (Sow new seeds every 2 weeks for continuous harvests all the way into winter.) When planting, space seeds 1-2" apart; and firm soil over the top. Soil should be moist, but well drained, to ensure germination. As seedlings grow, thin to 1 plant per 2-3" to provide room to grow. Early harvest onions are great in salads, sandwiches and stir fries. Harvest remaining onions when they mature at about 6-9 inches in height.
Make the Most of Your Spacing: Bunching onions are great space savers. They can be sown in neat rows; but they also work well in containers, or as companion plants around flowerbeds, vegetable patches and garden edges. Wherever you plant them just make sure the soil is well drained; and there's plenty of sunlight.
